Month: November 2023

2023 Annual General Meeting is Nov 28th at The Lantern

Happy City’s AGM will take place in the Bacalhao Room at the Lantern, 35 Barnes Road from 7PM to 8:30 on November 28th – it will also be available online via Zoom at a link that will be given here on the day.

There will be eleven seats on the board to fill. We encourage nominations to the board (including self-nominations) be made by November 26th so that information about each candidate can be included prior to the meeting, although the nominations will also be accepted at the meeting itself. Nominees (other than those nominated at the AGM) must fill out this short self-nomination form

At the meeting we will be giving a roundup of what we have achieved this year, providing financial and other reports, and also be considering two bylaw changes, one to correct a textual error regarding our established procedure of electing officers and one to clarify procedures used when there is an insufficient number of nominees for election to the board.

We encourage anyone interested in our work to attend to meet the current board and those seeking to join it. The meeting space is mobility accessible and bus routes 2 and 15 pass nearby. If you need other accessibility accommodations, please email secretary@happycity.ca by November 21 and let us know.

Guess Who’s Back… on Facebook

You might be surprised to find yourself being invited to like our page on Facebook since we have had one for years. Sadly, our old page was hacked and appears to have been permanently taken offline by Facebook, so we’re rebuilding from scratch. Please
visit the new one at https://www.facebook.com/HappyCitySJ/ and tell civic-minded friends to do likewise. Please note that only our Facebook presence was affected, so to the best of our knowledge, nobody’s personal information was put at risk. If in doubt, of course, feel free to contact us to confirm.
For the moment, we anticipate using that page largely to spread the word about our upcoming events and get them seen among other Facebook events. Since Facebook makes its money from getting organizations like ours to pay to make sure we reach you, we encourage you to sign up for our email newsletter instead (using the form to the right on this page!) as the best source of regular updates (and encourage others to do so). We only send emails when we have new and important things to say, and we don’t rent our list to others.
