Happy City is hiring a Neighbourhood Engagement Coordinator

Happy City is hiring! We're looking for a Neighbourhood Engagement Coordinator to work with us this year. It should be a lot of fun! You'll be working closely with our team of board members and volunteers to make St. John's a more engaged place. 

This is a student summer job funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program, so applicants will need to be under 30 years old, returning to post-secondary school in the fall, and a Canadian citizen. 

The  Neighbourhood Engagement Coordinator will help Happy City expand its work to neighbourhoods around St. John's and strengthen existing and emerging citizen networks in those neighbourhoods. 


  • Outreach to identified neighbourhoods and neighbourhood organizations
  • Profiling individual neighbourhoods according to socioeconomic indicators
  • Organizing events focused on neighbourhood relationship­-building
  • Developing (in partnership with existing neighbourhood associations) a manual for citizens interested in creating such an association or organizing community events
  • Other duties as assigned 


This position would be an excellent fit for a student in social work, sociology, community health, or any other discipline with a strong focus on community outreach and development. 

The ideal candidate is organized personable, knowledgeable about St. John's, excited to make a difference, and looking to work independently over the summer. 

Specific skills being sought include:

  • Event planning and organization
  • Writing and data collection
  • Engaging with the public

Pay and Hours

This position will last for 7 weeks at 35 hours/week and $10.75 an hour. Some flexible hours (evenings and weekends) will be required.
