Happy City St. John's will be holding its Annual General
Meeting (AGM) next Thursday, May 30th, at 7
PM at the Rocket Room. There will be lots
on the go at that meeting - we'll be giving a rundown on the year
past, launching our "My Happy City Is" summer
engagement campaign, and sitting down with the Happy City community
to plan the next year forward. We will also be electing the Board
of Directors for 2013-2014, and we'd love some engaged, passionate
people to come on board and take a leadership role.
Happy City's bylaws allow up to 11 directors on our board.
Over the past couple years, we've had a smaller board than that,
but we'd like to bring it up to full strength as we move into a
busier time. Half the board terms will be for 2 years, and the
other half for 1, so that we can make sure that we don't have a
complete changeover each year.
What does being a board member mean? Practically speaking,
the board sits down once a month to check in, set the broad
direction for the organization, and prioritize the different
opportunities and ideas that our members generate. In between
meetings, board members are very much encouraged to pursue their
personal passions within Happy City. If meeting planning is your
thing, or public transit, or policy research, there's a spot for
you. We encourage board members to convene committees with other
interested people to drive these projects along. Over the summer
months, our board will also be supervising Happy City's summer
Who can run for the board? Any member of Happy City - and
it's easy to be a member! In the interests of building a broad base
of participation, anyone on Happy City's email list is considered a
voting member. Not on that list yet? You can join right here on the
Happy City site, or by emailing us at email@example.com.
We're a loosely structured organization, and intend to keep
it that way. You don't have to be on the board, or even be a
member, to get involved in Happy City - but we would definitely
appreciate it if you did decide to get more

Interim Chair Josh Smee at firstname.lastname@example.org. We'll collect short
statements from board candidates and pop them online for everyone
to read before the AGM; you'll also have a chance to put your hat
in the ring and make a quick statement at the meeting
Thanks in advancefor stepping up - we'll see
you next Thursday!
